What is Sprint Backlog?

With “Sprint Goal”, Sprint Backlog is the second output of the Planning Meeting in which Product Backlog is the input. The relevant document constitutes the sorted, detailed, and scheduled content of the work that the team will do throughout the Sprint, and is a tool to help Development Team manage Sprint. The Sprint Backlog is an output created by the Development Team that includes the Development Team’s works on Sprint and strategies about how to complete them.

Throughout the Sprint, the content and time estimations, if any, – in other words the strategy – may vary with the initiative of the team. Scrum teams usually implement the Sprint Backlog as a Scrum board as shown in the picture below. Thus, the Scrum board, which is physically located in the work environment of the team, and the job list on it ensure transparency and the operation is revealed. Accordingly, the team evaluates the progress by looking at the Scrum board and the jobs on it daily and decides to change the Sprint strategy if necessary.

Sprint Backlog is basically a scheduled job list that includes the content of the team’s jobs during the Sprint.
